It's my first Thanksgiving away from home EVER. I miss my mom's awesome stuffing.
It's my first Thanksgiving away from my kids. It was a little sad. :(
It's my first Thanksgiving in Chicago.
It's my first Thanksgiving at my new job and WORKING. (Note: I am working on Christmas Eve AND Day on top of it, but getting New Year's Eve AND Day off - reasons behind it will come at a later post!)
You can say that today was a day of firsts for me.

Hey there. Hope your Thanksgiving went well. I came across your blog while doing the "next blog" surfing thing. I miss my Mom's stuffing too! (I didn't go home for Turkey Day this year either.)

Doesn't sound like you had much to look forward to, but there is something to be said for "firsts" and you did get to celebrate with someone you love. I used to work Tgiving and Christmas too. Sometimes it's not so bad, right?
I hope you at least got to talk to your kiddo's on the phone.
