I did Bikram.....

....and lived to tell about it. Yes, my blogging friends, I tried my first sesson of Bikram Yoga. I have been sick and tired for the last three month - especially the last three weeks - of sitting at home when not at work and not able to run. Well, after some searching, I decided to try Bikram Yoga. I found a Bikram Yoga studio, which is only 15 minutes from work. I got there quite a bit early to get changed and prepare myself for what I am able to experience. Here's the summary of my experience: First 30 minutes in the 105 degree heated room: "Ok...this is not too bad. I can handle this." 30-45 minutes into the session: "HOLY SHIT...I am really sweating. Look at the puddle that guy's leaving on the floor." (This is with the frustration of not being able to do many of the pose in the required time.....and seeing all of the show-offs in class." 45-60 minutes into the session: "Um...it's getting a little TOO hot in here. I don't know if I can make it." Last 15 minutes: "NOW I have seen and felt what HELL is..........and I don't like it." Well, I made it. I am now very tired...and sore. Plus I drank TWO 20 oz bottles of water during the 90 minute session - what I did not sweat out, I made very frequent trips to the bathroom. I have two more sessions left for this week before I book for more. I am using their $29 unlimited monthly intro package. Very nice deal for a newbie like me. BTW, Josh and I spent our Easter after I got home from work heading to Chinatown and having VERY nice dinner (and cheap too) at the Triple Crown. (Hmmmm...walnut shrimp!) It's my first Easter in Chicago (and 2nd away from home - did not miss much, mostly lots of family drama). Now time for bed....what a day!

Some people just love yoga. I tried it once, but didn't enjoy it much, so never tried it again. I've heard wonderful things about Bikram, though.

Congratulations on passing your driving test. It sounds like you're having a wonderful time living in Chicago. I hope your job slows down, though.

I've always wanted to try yoga of any sort. I'll have to give it a try.

I've been considering trying that yoga. Supposed to be really nice as the heat keeps you really loosened up. I need something for my ITB. When are you going to be able to run again?

I did Bikram. Once. I felt so hot halfway through that I felt dizzy and nauseous, so I stepped out and yakked in the bathroom. I was so light-headed and weak that I grabbed my mat, skipped the rest of the class, and went home.

Otherwise, I have always loved yoga. I just can't do it in that kind of heat. Or, maybe I could, but I'd have to work up to that kind of time in the heat.

A 90-minute yoga session sounds like a SERIOUS introduction to yoga! You go, girl!

I hope the next two sessions this week are more pleasant as you get used to it! I want to try yoga...

i LOVE Bikram. It gets a little easier. Two things: you absolutely cannot look at anyone else. just watch yourself in the mirror. and my second tip is to try not to move AT ALL in between poses. Some people wiggle around, fix their hair, gulp water. The best thing is to lay still and let your body calm down.

And good for you for trying it! It's quite a workout!!!

As a yoga instructor, I've always wanted to try bikram....but oh man I don't know if I could take the heat...I like my yoga at room temp.

Bikram is terrific for runners, especially those still recovering from a deep injury. Personally, I get too grossed out by other people's sweat puddles. But it is very good for people who can tolerate it.
