A BIG Thank You...and an update on the knee

I just want to say a HUGE "THANK YOU" to all of those who have posted comments on my blog after yesterday's post. I was SO surprised about all of the bloggers who knew or thought they knew about my relationship with Josh. I did not realize that we left the big door wide open for all of you to see. I really do appreciate your support and words of congradulations. It means SO much to me and Josh. You are all SO amazing! On the other hand, I went to my appointment yesterday with the orthopedic specialist about my knee issues. After a lot of questions and a very detail exam, I learned the following things about both of my knees and legs in general.
  1. I have high arches in both feets (I already knew that I had overpronation in them. Just need to add that too..ugh!)
  2. Both of my knees have a click in them. (The damn doctor kept on playing with my left knee which was VERY irritating.)
  3. My current knee issues is due to VERY inflammed IT band. (Yes, it's being a big BITCH!)
  4. No running for 4 to 6 weeks.
  5. I need to work on strengthing my glutes and quads.
  6. If after being strict on the program for 8 weeks and do not get any relief, I need to go back in to see him again.

I want to get my knee better and fast. I am willing to do anything and everything to get it under control. I had original plans to register for Grandma's Half-Marathon, but will slow down and see how my leg acts after starting this program. I just want to get back to normal.

Oh, Denise. I am sorry to hear about your knee issues. I hope the 8 weeks of strict directions from the doctors help you and make you a stronger running when you are ready to get back out there!

The new foam roller should arrive by Friday.  That and your exercises will get you back in the game.

High arches just mean you're special.

The rest will do you good. I have high arches, too. Someone suggested to me fish oil capsules for my knee issues. I don't know if that's what helped or if it was a combination of things, like doing leg extensions and leg curls, taking glucosamine-chondroitin, MSM, etc... Maybe it's all in my head, but it seemed that after I added the fish oil caps, my knees hurt less. I dunno. I'm sure you've gotten a lot of advice on the knees, and I don't want to steer you wrong, but maybe ask your orthopedic specialist about supps. Take care.

Think of the 4-6 weeks as an opportunity to get around to some other activities and you'll be back to running in no time!

You should talk to Jodi over at joditris.blogspot.com. She had some knee issues after running a half marathon with little training. I remember her giving some advice to some folks about exercises that strengthen the knee (via the quads). Provided of course you don't already have some! Take care!!

girl that door was WIDE open I could see it coming also. I'm happy you are happy and only you know what fills your heart with joy and peace like i've said before so you do what you've gotta do. And that Josh boy needs to start making his plan to move! :) Congrats to you both, and I too am sorry about your knee! agh setbacks are frustrating! but taking good care of it will pay off later.

I think it was pretty obvious about Josh. You gushed about him a lot the past few months!

Good luck with the relationship!

Hmm...I almost would want a 2nd opinion on the knee. From what you've described, it just doesn't sound ITB related, but then again, I'm not a dr!! ITB issues with the knee only ever bothered when I was running and it sounds like you have it more often. Hope you can do other things in that 4-6 weeks...I know it is stressful not having a release when you are used to exercising!! Foam rollers are awesome...My chiro said to never go over it more then 6-8 times a day though, so be careful with it. Apparently it can be detrimental used improperly.
