This is a HUGE problem in marathons, though usually it's not so intentionally deceptive. I see lots of running forums asking people for a number after a race officially closes. Then the motive is usually profit, not PRs.
OK, my comment disappeared...anyway, the thing that burns me most about it is that he lied more when he said he was wanting to run it to raise money for some cause...he was going to raise $25K...you can do team in training and raise money and run Boston, about $5K I think or even less, will get you in there. I wanted to write to the media and inform them of this bit of information.
