How can some many miles can hurt so MUCH...

...and I am amazed that I walk straight. I can not walk the stairs without a twinge from the knees. Owwwww! Thank GOD for the ice bath. I am even more thankful for the upcoming massage and adjustment on Monday morning. It was cold this morning when I started my run - 35 degrees. I had four layers on top, if you include my sport bra, and double layered on the bottom. I also had a scarf on to keep the cold air out of my lungs during the beginning of the run until it was comfortable or just started to warm up outside. I also have my favorite pink baseball cap to keep my head warm. The sun was out and the sky was clear. It was a good day for a run except for the cold air. My legs felt great when I started running. My body warmed up very quickly. I took a sip of Gatorade at each stoplight when I had to stop. My body needed more motivation toward the 5 miles of the run. It was starting lose gas very quickly. I had to tell my legs to keep going because we were getting closer to the starting point. The hills along with Minnehaha Trail were just brutel, but were a little easier when I ran downhill. I swear I saw at least 10 people wearing shorts during my run. Shorts. ARE THEY INSANE?! OMG....Did they check the forecast before they went outside this morning. Geez!! It's not 50 degrees anymore. **sigh** At the end of the run, I swear I heard choirs of angels as I neared the finish point. I just needed some motivation to get it completed. When I finished, I walked to my car and got in as I started the engine. As I blew some heat into the car, I quickly got the wet shirts off and put the dry clothes that I had set aside this morning on I was SO glad to get the stuff off.....period. I headed home to take an ice bath - more very cold water bath because I was too tired to buy ice. It's funny that I am taking an ice bath AFTER running in COLD conditions. **sigh** The ice bath felt good since I drinking a cup of hot decaf chai and eating one of the two turkey sandwichs I bought. Then I took a MUCH needed nap for an hour. Personally I was craving it after the ice bath because I was SO tired. After the nap, I got ready for work. Tommorow and Monday are both rest days - THANK GOD! Vikes are on a bye week so nothing exciting on. Today's workout 14.25 miles - LONG run 2:21:35 1576 calories burned - Something YUMMY is planned tonight. 9:56/mile - very consistant pace

You're supposed to dress 20 degrees warmer than the actual temp :P ...so if it's 35...dress as if it's 55. :)

awesome pace! great run! I agree with jayhawk; dress as though it's warmer. If you're comfortable at the start, then you'll soon be hot. So I froze my a** off today!

That's a great run, Denise. As a ref, we are supposed to be on the field in the same gear as the players. I've worn shorts in sub 20 degree weather. Not fun! Kudos to you for finishing strong and getting it done. You are gonna be fantastic! Enjoy your rest days! but please, rest!!

Awesome, congrats on a great long run! Running in the cold is a skill I'd like to develop someday, but that would involve me being less of a wimp.

BTW, do you ever come down to Chicago? You should look me up. Here's my e-mail: Josh(at)pugpaw.com

Continued good luck in your training.

BRRR ice baths after cold weather runs....that's brave. I liked your idea of wearing a scarf to help warm the air so it didn't burn your lungs, I may steal the idea because I have a problem with that when it gets cold!

Congrats!!!! I still can't get over how fast you are. I hope you are not too sore today. Keep up the gentle stretching and drink lots and lots of fluids.

I can't even imagine running in 35 degree temps...Is that torture or what??

Brrrr, sounds cold!

Great job on your LONG run! So, what did you have for dinner last night?? Anything I might like?

P.S. Thanks for the advice for my leg pain!

Congrats on getting the run done. Sorry I wasn't able to join you for it but my planned pace over the weekend for my 12 was going to be 9 minutes or better, and I did hit 8:50s...I didn't go out till it warmed up around a little around 11 either. No way I would've gone at 8. If I had been out that early, it would've been the dreadmill so great job!! Another one sometime I'll join you for though, when my marathon is behind me!!

you are kicking some serious tail, denise! not to mention you're a brave one for running in 30 deg temps! I would have simply turned right straight around if I felt the bite of those kinds of temps!

Great commitment!
