12 miles....Conquered!!!

Yes, I did it....again! It was a little more challenging than last Saturday, but I did it!! After a night of eating stuff at a school potluck presented by the students that I guard their important lives - mostly their law school organizations. It was awesome food. They had a HUGE variety of food too ranging from Mexican (which I could NOT touch due to my run this morning except for the yummy plantain!) to Asian and some Indian curry. They had some AWESOME, yummy sweets, which I did indulged in a little bit. (Please don't the running coach!) I woke up at 7 am and immediate grabbed my pre-made PB&J sandwich as I got ready to go. I also ate a whole banana as I drank my required pre-run fluids. I headed out the door to meet up with my TNT group around 7:40. I got there on time and spent time stretching before everyone took off. We were running on the Gateway trail this morning. We took off a little bit after 8 am. The first mile or so was okay, but I hit a snag after that until the turn around point at mile 5. In fact, I had an extra passenger - a stupid knot on my left calf - and was determined to not it slow me down or tame me one bit. I kept on mentally telling the calf muscle to RELAX. Once I got the turn-around point, I REALLY stretched it out and applied pressure to the knot to release the knot....and it WORKED. When I re-started up again, I FLEW like the wind. I felt SO good. I even was able to catch up the earlier group that were ahead of me. It was AWESOME! I started running out of gas again at mile 8.5. But after I re-fueled at the water stop, I was off again...like the wind. I was SO happy to reach the starting point before continuing on the McKnight Road point in the route. I ran SO quick past this walking group when I turned around again to return back at the starting point. I re-fuel with Gatorade and a Chocolate chip cookie made a TNT teammate, which I was SO happy to eat. **grin** I stretched some and then needed to head home on time. Before I reached home, I stopped to get some more Gatorade Endurance to drink before and after the ice bath. Once home, I prepped for an ice bath, which was really welcomed since I was getting stiff. After the ice bath, I allowed the ice bath's effects before having a warm shower to clean off. After the post-run ritual, I ate a turkey sandwich on the sofa, which I bought on my way home and finished off the Gatorade. Then I hopped to bed for a pre-planned 1 1/2 hour nap, which was MUCH needed since I was getting very sleepy. When I woke up, I felt very loose and relaxed as I got ready for a long night at work. Tommorow's a much needed rest day before my 4 miler on Monday. I plan to take it easy tomorrow with the kids as we watch the Vikes plan Detroit. We need some good news this week in the Minnesota sportsworld - besides the Wild (no comment on that!) Today's workout 12 mile run 1:58:34 1327 calories (according to Runner's World - FEAST time!) 9:52/mile (last week was NOT a fluke!)

Good for you! I'm barely nipping your heels at a 10:07 pace. I ran my 7 today on the treadmill.

I'm getting excited about getting back into the PF Chang's program. How many more weeks now? 13 or so?

Maybe we'll end up in the same corral? :)

Wow!!! That's just a super, super run, Denise! Although I'm not so sure about using the word "Welcome" in the same sentence as "ice bath". As I prep for my long run this week, you have added strength to my desire. Well done!!

Congrats on a good run and good job working out the knot. I thought maybe I'd see you down at the lakes, in fact I looked for you while I was running my 22 miles, including two loops around each one and then a trip up to my car (parked further back so I could run some hillls on the way to the lakes). Thank God the Vikings defense was able to pull that one out. We need some receivers who will stop fumbling!!

Sounds like a great run, and I'm a firm believer in naps, too. Sounds like a great day overall. :)
