I impressed myself!!

I am so surprised on how well I did today. I surprised that I was able to wake up at all this morning. I did not fall asleep until after 2 am last night. I was ready to be sound asleep around 1:30, but when I hurt a LONG sirens moving fast past my apartment window. I had to get up and check it out...sorry! It's a very bad habit because I going to the Law Enforcement field so it's in the blood. I thought it was a fire truck rolling. No, it wasn't. It was THREE squad car chasing a car through a curvy road through my apartment complex. Once I saw that, I asked my husband to grab the scanner to find out the reason for the chase. It turns out that a guy threatened someone with a gun...not a VERY smart thing to do. They ended up using stopsticks to slow him and even a neighboring canine unit for back-up. (Nothing like seeing a guy being treated like a BIG chew toy with the K9.) **grin** Anyhoo, I work up at 9 am and slowly got ready. The skies look really icky again. **sigh** I thought it was going to be another treadmill day. But once the weather guy from one of the TV stations came on, with the SUN coming out through the clouds, I quickly moved faster out the door. I almost forgot to prep my lungs. Oooops! Instead of going to my usual running spot, I decided to head to near the main campus in St. Paul and run along the Mississippi River from Summit Ave to near the Ford plant. After heading all of your suggestions, I decided - with the help of my running friend and TNT-Phoenix mentor, Frank - to run 5 miles or close to it. I needed a little new surroundings. I did not think it would hurt to try something new. As I got near my turn-around point at a little bit over 2 miles, I looked at my watch. It said, "20:05". HOLY CRAP! The run felt very easy and smooth, 'cept the uneven/slanted running trails - one of my pet peeves from the 1st season with TNT. I was try to follow recommended pace as given on Runner's World. Was my legs going to behave and slow down? NO! It's SO hard to slow down instead of speed up. I don't get it. Well, I finished my planned path, after viewing it on Mapyourrun.com, at 4.73 mile. It was close by .25 mile. I am not upset about it. I did much more than I have been doing for the last 4 weeks. After the run and cooling down, I headed home, ate my favorite recovery food - PB&J sandwich, and then laid down for a 45 minute nap before showering and heading to work. When I get to home, I sit and relax for only 10 minutes before a co-worker, who I relieved, walks back in and asks to be check something out. Ok. Well, it turns out that a intoxicated guy passed out and crashed into one of our bushes in the middle of the busy afternoon. It was my job to go out and deal with him. Oh FUN! On top of that, he have a very nice shiner on his eye. After the medics are called, he was taken away and getting checked out by the ER doc. Then it was my job to write a report on it too. Fun..fun! Well, things have slowed down for the rest of the night. Tommorow's a much needed rest day. Today's work-out 4.73 mile run 48:52 10:19/mile - Wow!! 495 calories

River Road--that's where I trained for Grandma's! There's some killer hills to train on south of the Ford plant, as you go down to the water.

Pretty exciting to have 3 squad cars chasing a 4th in your complex. Glad they got the bad guy.

Great Job!! Isn't funny when you suprise yourself with a fast time and don't realize your pushing? Some days I can just forget about running and just run.

You are moving right along and are making great progress with your distance and times. Very proud of ya!

I'm in my last week of semi-training and then I start my marathon program for PF Chang's next Monday!

Geez, we only have a little over 4.5 months to prep. Time goes by so fast!

Amazing how a change of pace can bring...a change of pace. And I'm like you when I hear sirens and see flashing lights in the middle of the night. I remember a house burned down and the next day I met a couple who lived next door and swore they never woke up. Either they lied or they were doing some serious drugs earlier in the evening.

Nice run...And you know what I say, if it feels good and it's not a planned speed day (where you should be running your set paces) or a long run, I say go with what feels good, whether it's a 15 min mile or an 8 min mile!! New routes can be very motivating. I've been down along the river in St. Paul before from Harriet Island and it's a really nice run. You could always do that Mississippi run in Mpls too, but be warned, it's quite hilly and challenging!!

I was at Calhoun on Sunday relaxing in my "happy place" again!
