6 miles done....almost

Well, I guess Mother Nature has other plans when it comes to my running. I woke up this morning with the skys being VERY gray, which has not gone away all day. There's another HUGE cell of stormy weather hitting my part of the start. Instead of going away, the cell keeps regenerating itself. There's a lot of hail, which I have yet see. My original plan was to go outside and run the 6 miles according to my training schedule. Well, because rain arrived this morning, instead of my last night, I had to run on the treadmill. I don't mind using the treadmill for 3 or 4 miles, but not 6 miles. Today have no choice unless I switch my day, which did not want to take a chance on. I woke up, changed into my running clothes, ate a good breakfast, and was out the door before 10:30. Once I was at the gym, my mind-set was to get the 6 miles done. When I start the mileage, my legs felt a little tight so I keep at a good pace, but not too fast for the first mile. Once I started the 2nd mile, I went to a faster pace (12:00/mile) and stayed there until the last 10 minutes. At around mile 3, I started to get a little tired so I paused the treadmill and quickly gulped down some Gu and water. Then I started up again. The 45 seconds that I paused the machine seemed to be what my legs needed and got my energy back. As I was about to start mile 5, the machine automatically went to cool-down mode instead of continuing until I finished. WTF!! When the speed went down, I put it back up again to where I was. I repeated this 3 times until I finished in the cool-down mode. When I stepped off the treadmill, I felt good. I cleaned off the treadmill and then walked around the running track to cool-down before stretching. Tommorow's a rest day - thank goodness - before another 4 mile run on Saturday. My legs need a break from the jump into this training schedule. I have been challenged, but still felt the effects a little bit. Today's work-out 5.32 mile run - treadmill 1:05:00 682 calories 12:13/mile

Great job on the run!! A lot of the machines at our gym automatically start cool-down at 1 hour, even though you may have set it for more miles than you've gone! I usually set it for a random time instead of distance to avoid that!!!

Good for you to committ to the run even on the treadmill. So many folks would have just bagged it altogether.

From time to time you may want to run in the rain just in case you have to do a race in it.

Great job!

excellent effort to get the run in despite the weather, sorry about the 'cool down' mode, but you put lotsa miles in regardless, way to go!

enjoy the well earned rest

Treadmill runs are a bore, but sometimes a nice break on the knees. And I like to let my mind wander so sometimes it's nice to know I wont get hit by a car. Of course I may go flying off the machine but that's a different problem.
Enjoy your rest day.

Good job on getting the run done. Weather wasn't so bad in the morning, I wish I had gotten mine in then as the evening was defintiely out!! We didn't see hail down in Edina where I am, but I heard north it was really bad, did you ever see any?

What I've done on mills that quit after an hour is just hit the stop and restart it right away so I can continue on.

Way to gut it out. You had so many chances to bag it.
