owwwww....My poor body!

Happy day AFTER the 4th! I really wish that someone would tell me that the soreness would kick in on the next day AFTER a very good run. The soreness started to kick in last night when I was at work. I ended up putting on some ice on my left hip before I went to bed and take 3 Advil tablets. It seemed to help a bit, but still woke up a little sore this AM. I had to be up at 7 am - AGAIN - for class. (5 more classes left - YAY!!) I decided after class that I would NOT go running today, but to concentrate on cross-training (again!) so I can keep my leg muscles loosened up. I was TOO sore to run and really wanted to be able to walk - at the minimum at work. I did 45 minutes on the elliptical machine at my normal pace and excursion level. I was a little sore at first, but was able to warm up and keep going. I felt good when I got off the machine and finished with some stretching to cool-down. I headed home to shower and eat before heading to work. When I arrived at work, I found out that one of my co-workers (who was off yesterday and then off tommorow and Friday) called in sick. UGH! I sat down for a little bit to read my e-mail and catch up on stuff. A hour later, we had a situation that involved me running to another building. But I found myself unable to move much. Owwwww! My legs muscles ached in my quads and hammies. Wow! I did not know that I did too much today. I was only trying to give my muscles a break from the pounding of the concrete, but I guess I was wrong. I already know that tommorow - unfortuately - will have to be an extra rest that I did not plan. I really need to visit the chiropractor because it has been over 3 weeks since my last visit. I doubt that I will be able to get in a work-out on Friday since I am getting my hair done. I will pack my gear just in case. You never know. I took some Aleve that administrative assistant had on his desk. I thanked graciously - along with the chocolate to help make the pain a little easier. I know that ice and LOTS of Tiger Balm will calling me before I go to bed. Laters!

Ah, the day after. I know it all too well. Sounds like you've got all the right remedies though - nothing kicks pain like a little ice. And chocolate :)

Tiger balm? Is that like Ben Gay or Icy Hot?

Ouch! I hope your pain lessens as the days go by. I find that day two after a particularly grueling workout is always the killer for me.

Keep the chocolate and Advil goin'...

Pain is good, remember that!! Means you are working something different!! Eventually the muscles will get used to it, it's just that every time you change up the routine, something happens and the muscles work differently.

Calhoun is a nice place to run. I actually almost enjoy just going to watch the runners there and just run around my own neighborhoods to relax, but tomorrow (Friday) I think I'll be there running a speed workout after work.

Sounds like you were really hurting today. Do you think you maybe should have rested altogether (do you really need the ellipitical on a day like today?)?

Hope you recover rapidly...
