Followed the calling of the Treadmill

Well, I was able to get enough sleep last night and felt very rested. I was able to get up at 9 am with no problems. I hustled big time to get myself dressed, eat some breakfast, and then prep my lung for my session on the treadmill. It's been 4 days since I started new meds, but not long enough to take away the need to prep using my nebulizer. I hate the effect of Albuteral - especially the damn jitteriness, but that's a sign that I know it's in my lungs working. It is a temporary inconvience, but it helps me run stronger. I head out on the road towards the gym. The weather outside felt very comfortable - for being at 84 degrees already at 10 am. UGH! Today was my lucky day. My favorite treadmill was ready and available for ME to use. It was calling me! I was happy! I was set for 3 miles today. The beginning of the run very SMOOTH. I loved it! Once I hit the 1.5 mile mark, the shin pain came BIG time. I pushed through as much as I could. I slowed down a bit, but kept on going. My lungs were still feeling really good. But as I was 0.5 miles aways from finishing, the lungs were starting to not be happy. I slowed down a notch, but mentally reminded myself that I was almost done. I am ALMOST there. I finished. I did it! I felt good and then started the 7 minute cool-down on the treadmill with another 3 miles on the track. I stretched and headed home. We did not hit over 100 on the thermometer, but felt it in the heat index. Tommorow's not going to be easier - same old until Tuesday when the rain comes in and cools us down - FINALLY! I will be cross-training tommorow. Today's Work-out 3 mile - treadmill 38:52 12:57/mile - not impressive, but it's DONE!

Be careful with those shin splints. You don't want to end up like me! Working through the pain will only make them worse. Stretch your calves well before working out, ice your shins immediately after running and take plenty of pain killers :) I hope they don't linger and interrupt your workouts.
