Another 5K mileage

Well, I was able to get up this AM and get in a run. I woke up at 8:30 this morning (with the help my hubby) and prepared to run. As I ate my breakfast, I iced my left hip so it was comfortable enough to run in. I also used my nebulizer, which I have learned has helped me in my running (Sorry, doc!) I was able to get out the door and on my way around 9:50. As I was driving to Lake Calhoun, I drove through a good downpour. In fact, I was praying last night before going to bed that the showers would hit earlier in the night. I did not want to scrap today's run and go inside. Well, I was able to see the sun through the other side of the small storm - no biggie! By the time, I got to my destination that air was still very cool and comfortable to run in. PERFECT! Before I started my run, I re-applied my left hip with some Biofreeze, which seems to help with preventing the pain. The run started a little slow - like I was supposed - for the first .3 mile. I could feel my left hip bouncing after each stride for a little bit. After a while, I was able to focus on my iPod music instead of the pain. I also had a little shin splint pain, but went away. Minus the hip stuff, I was more comfortable to stay on pace during my run. I had to slow down a small drink of water, but was able to enjoy the run. When I finished, I was happy to accomplish so much in this run. I clicked on the stop button from my stop and was amazed of the result. Wow!! I finished my 5K run in 34:57 and I was not trying to go that fast. I was simply going at my comfortable pace and amazed myself once again. When I was finished, I realized that 16 oz of Powerade went through my system and had to use the port-a-potty. Ewwwww! I enjoy the marathons, but I HATE using the port-a-potties. They are simple GROSS! Ewww! Then I walked back to my car and stretched my legs. (Good girl!) I made sure that I did my IT band stretches TWICE so I did not feel it later - even though I may end up feeling it anyway. I made my usual stop at Jamba Juice for a smoothie and do some minor grocery shopping at Whole Foods. When I returned home, I iced my left hip again before heading for the showers. Rest of the day is pretty uneventful. Back at work tonight before my "weekend". Today's Work-out 5K run 34:54 11:13/mile pace (YES...again!)

Nicole, I was icing the hip as a precautionary measure - not because it was sore. I already had two days of rest and felt good.
